Conference Week

I love that my son love's conference!!!

I got an email from Tyler calling conference the Super Bowl of the mission and its so true. I never liked conference before the mission but now its like the greatest thing thats happened to me since last conference. I loved Pres. Eyrings talk and Elder Bednars talk. I think those were my favorites. oh and did you see the Larry Echo Hawk. That might be the coolest name in the world. So I watched it in english again. It was me and 4 other American Elders and 2 american sisters (well one is British) and it was way better than watching it in Portuguese. I wouldnt have any problems watching it in portuguese its just not as good I dont like it. We had to watch the priesthood session in portuguese and I didnt get as much out of it. Its also awesome because of the time change we watch it at 1 and it doesnt get over til like 7 so we dont do anything. Its just a giant conference weekend.

It was awesome cuz we had a lot of less actives and our recent convert thats been struggling watch the Sunday session. I think Elder Bednars talk really got to one of our less actives cuz he was crying at the end. The work is still hard here. The problem is nobody is married they just live together and say they're married, so they cant be baptized. But nobody wants to pay the R$80 to get married so we have a bunch of people like ready to be baptized that cant. Its really annoying. but the good news is our less actives are coming back, that will really help our ward out.

so a funny story for you. So we are teaching this 13 year old kid. And we always teach prayer is just a conversation with God, so he prays so cool hes like God I just wanted to thank you for this day and let you know that my parents are drinking again, they only drink when they get money so if you could make it so they get less money to not buy alcohol that would be awesome. just the way he says things during prayers is really funny. but I love you guys transfers are next week so we will see where I end up! byeeeeeeeeee

Brazilian hospital

There is a Brazilian return missionary that lives in Kyle's area.  He called me this week because he needed to get me a message from Kyle.  Before we hung up he told me how much he loves Kyle and how his fun loving personality is so great to be around.  He says that the members and missionaries all love him because he is so great.  He told me that he never went on splits with the missionaries until Kyle came around.  He says he loves to go on splits with Kyle and because of Kyle's great personality this RM is doing missionary work again!...yes, I cried!  I already knew my son was amazing but to have this Brazilian tell me how awesome he is was very powerful!

so this week im pretty sure i went to the worst place on earth, the
public hospital of Brasil. So ive had a problem with my eye for a
while, like ever since I got to teresina, and my normal eye drops
werent doing anything. So I go to like the medical place they send
missionaries and they didnt have their eye specialist so they sent me
to the hospital and it is seriously hell on earth. The door is an iron
gate with a gatekeeper you have to have like a pass to get in and once
inside theres like dying people everywhere. we are walking around and
im completely lost and wanted to cry. There was a guy without an arm
sitting on the ground another guy that was missing half his face and
just people waiting to die everywhere. so we are wandering through
this hospital scared and totally out of place when out of nowhere this
lady yelled Elders come here! Praise Jesus we are saved. she then
directs us to the eye doctor who told me I have a virus in my eye gave
me some eye drops and we left it was just a terrible 20 minutes and I
never want to go back there again.

Other than that it was a pretty normal week. We finally found a solid
group of investigators so we arent walking around in the hot sun as
much anymore. its really really hot here. the post office is still on
strike so I think everything is taking a little bit longer than normal
to get here, which adds to the whole package mess. we had interviews
with the president today and he told my comp that he should ready
himself to be a senior comp for next transfer which means one of us is
getting transfered and Im pretty sure its me sooooo unfortunately im
leaving the area soon I think. I actually really like my area. I
really like the members here. that guy that called you is Jean, hes
the man. I always go teach with him domingos and this lady that wants
to marry Jean (thats the real reason why I think Jean like to go teach
people now) but its alot of fun I love going and teaching people with
them. We got alot of less actives to go to church this week. Its was
awesome cuz our attendence was dropping quick and last week was the
highest its ever been and we did the math and without the less actives
we got to go the attendence would have dropped even lower, so it was
awesome to actually see what we are doing have an effect. Well i love
you guys and miss you guys like crazy. I made 8 months this passed
week, its weird to think how quick its gone. The transfers fly by now,
especially now that I actually speak portuguese and dont really have
any problems with the language, it gets better everyday. but I love
you guys byeeeee

2 weeks without an email!

Because of some computer glitches I hadn't gotten an email from Kyle for 2 weeks!  I was so happy to hear from him!  So happy for modern day conveniences!!

So cool thing that happened. So when I picked up my new comp, hes the
> man btw, at the bus station there was like 8 sister missionaries there
> so I started talking to the American ones about the mission and stuff.
> And the week before the mission got turned upside down when the
> President opened a zone of just sisters. So im talking to these 2
> sisters and one was like I was praying really hard for a challenge cuz
> its my last transfer and ive already done everything a sister can do
> and I want to go out with a bang. And she got called to be a Zone
> Leader! the zone of sisters has 2 sister zone leaders and a district
> leader. Ive never heard of this happening but its awesome. I hate
> sister missionaries so much cuz we cant do anything with them and
> almost all of them in my mission are total slackers and do nothing and
> theres nothing we can do about it. We cant go on divisions or anything
> to help them so theyre like invincible. But now they have leaders,
> kind of strange but its the thing our president likes to do. The area
> here is really hard to find new people, but we have awesome members
> and a lot of less actives. So now we spend our time reactivating
> people and knocking on the doors of rich people. The president wants
> us to talk to more rich people. The problem here is its super easy to
> baptize poor people that are looking for help from the church but they
> have no way to stay active cuz the chapels are so far away and nobody
> has cars. So now we are knocking on the doors of the wealthy to try
> and help the church really grow. its way harder, the rich people dont
> like to be bothered, and we have to wear our suits in the sun when we
> knock doors in rich places, yeah it really blows and its really hot.
> Oh yeah so Eliana the lady that I baptized in Imperatriz sent me a
> care package a week ago and it was full of like food things like that
> but the cool part was I had destroyed my belt and I was gonna have to
> buy a new one and Brazilian belts are either really cheap and terrible
> or really nice and expensive and she sent me 2 super nice belts. I
> have no idea how she knew I needed a belt but she sent me 2 so Im
> pretty much set for my mission and im pretty sure she recieved
> revelation from god. Oh and all the banks schools and post offices are
> on strike so I wont be getting money or letters for a little bit.
> gotta love Brasil k love you guys thats all I have byeeeeeeeeeeee

A second sun for Teresina?

I always laugh at his sense of humor.  Sounds like he had a rough week with getting sick and the heat, but he always finds a way to make us laugh about it.  I love that about Kyle!

So this week was a tough one. I got sick tuesday and stayed home, I got the
Brazilian poops and it destroyed my week. that and the bible lies. God didnt
create one sun. He created the sun for the world and after created a sun
much larger and much hotter for teresina. it was
115 degrees here this week....how there is life here i dont know. but we've
finally gotten a group of good investigators together. That girl we baptized
is awesome, she tells everybody about the church and so like everytime we go
to her house she has somebody for us to go talk to. Its just a matter of
finding which ones really want to hear and which ones are just being nice.
oh and our lunch on sunday fell through and it was fast sunday but our new
bishop was like oh just come eat at my house. so we go and im throwing on
the rice and beans and noodles and then she brings out some rather delicious
looking meat so i grab like 3 pieces and start eating. I cut into the meat
and it was bright orange on the inside and i eat it and it was the nastiest
thing ive ever eaten. but I already took a bunch so I mix it in with the
rice and beans and start forcing it down. About 10 minutes later the bishop
looks at me and said oh elder I see you are liking the liver......I wanted
to throw up. I ate an organ thats sole purpose is to filter urine. It was
ridiculously gross. But it was food and fast sunday. Our ward got split and
is alot smaller now. We lost about 75 people, but all of the families I like
are still in my ward, we lost all the people I dont know. Today is
transfers, my comp already got transfered, hes going to açailandia, its a
city about an hour out of Imperatriz so hes going to my old zone. But thats
all Ive got for you guys. Me and the other American I live with, Elder
Stott, made a sweet patch to put on our bags, its super cute ill send a
picture next week when its finished. Love you guys byeeeeeeeeee

Finally doing better

Kyle has had a rough couple of weeks...so it was good to hear that things are going better.  It is humbling as a Mom when you have to sit back and let Heavenly Father take care of his child.  I have always been a helicopter Mom!  I always want to fly in and fix everything.  It has been a learning experience for me to have to pray for him to get the guidance and comfort he needs.  All of these experiences make us stronger!

So the week definately got better. We baptized this lady that we´ve
been teaching since i got here. She has the hots for Dad. shes swears
he was the president of the US, she tells me that all the time. Shes
super funny. She told me to send him a kiss on fathers day, I thought
it was rather amusing.
Elder Yorgason went home last week, the bad thing about the house I
live in is all the Elders that are going home stay in it for a day to
get interviewed and stuff and then they go home. So its really easy to
get homesick and distracted in our house. But he told me some
interesting things that I really liked. I asked him what he would have
done better if he could go back and he said he wouldnt change
anything, cuz he didnt have any regrets from the mission. The mission
is a learning process and if he could go back and do it again with the
knowledge he has now by the end he would want to go back and redo it
again with even more knowledge. kind of a cool thing to think about
but it sucked seeing him go home. he was the man. And then our ward
got split and we traded chapels. its way better cuz our chapel now is
only a 10 15 minute walk from our house instead of like 45. But we
have to switch up our tracting area. We were working in the area
closest to the chapel and now that area is the farthest from our
chapel. Hows Alex doing? have you gotten any word on his MTC
experience? Hes told me he doesnt like it which I think is funny
looking back on my time in são paulo. it sucks but everybody has to do
it. He got lucky. After I left the MTC the changed the program to only
6 weeks for american instead of 9 but all the americans spoke just
terrible portuguese with 6 weeks so they switched it back to 9. thats
all Ive got for you guys this week. Love you all

photos!

Here are the latest photos that he sent.  He says the brown building on the right is where he lives.  They live on the 6th floor.  The cool building you can take the elevator up and see all over Teresina.  Last but not least...his new name tags showed up.  They can't pronounce Kyle or Rindlisbacher in Portuguese so he goes by Elder Hal (his middle name):

OMG its so freaking hot here. Its out of control hot. I dont know how
people live here. Its hard cuz we dont live in our area, we live about
10 minutes away from our area and its a huge area. So we spend all day
walking in the sun and it stinks, its a good thing i have sunscreen
now. I can feel myself getting skin cancer, i feel like sunscreen just
slows down the inevitable. But its crazy how different the people are
here. Like everybody welcomes us in they are all so much more open to
hearing about our church and everybody gives us coke or something. And
ive finally come to the realization that i am addicted to coke. At
first i denied it but now I know, but its not my fault. EVERYBODY
gives it to us. And pepsi doesnt exsist here. Its super hard to find
pepsi and nobody likes it very much. But the hardest part now is our
house. I live with 6 missionaries and its awesome cuz theres always
funny stuff going on like it never gets awkward but the culture
differences flare up sometimes. The Brazilians culture is if they find
it its theirs or if its in the fridge its free game. American culture
is ask first. So I come back to the house one day and somebody drank
all my pepsi and ate half my loaf of bread. For them its no big deal
but that made me mad. They throw a massive fit and freak out when i
brush my teeth in the kitchen when the bathroom is full but drink a
whole 2 litre of pepsi and its ok. That and the one thing that drives
me nuts about brazilians is they dont flush toilet paper. They throw it
in a trash can next to the toilet. It grosses me out. And I was
assigned to clean the bathroom today. not cool. it is what it is but
it gets really hard dealing with culture differences cuz like we dont
understand each others cultures very well. Im used to the toilet paper
thing like there is nothing I can do about that but people eating all
my food is crossing many lines. I watched a little bit of the
olympics, USA beat brasil in volleyball. That was a strike to their
pride cuz all they have in the world of sports is soccer and
volleyball. Good thing the US dominates in everything. Oh and i saw my
first chicken foot in my foot this passed week, oh Brasil. everybody
ate meat in Imperatriz so i never ate that much chicken but here
everybody eats chicken and as I look down into the pot of chicken
there was a foot just chillin in there. I gladly passed on the
chicken. If Teresina wasnt so hot it would be awesome, but I dont know
how long im gonna last in the heat. Ive already lost over 10 pounds.
all of my muscle mass is gone, which leaves me with just skin and
bones. It gets me more food which is great for me. But I love you
guys, I hope the move went well and that you guys are all settled in.
Just remember no matter how hot Arizona is, Teresina is hotter. And
nobody has AC. just fans. until next week!
